Chord Chart

Steely Dan wrote incredible pop and rock music with hints of jazz and blues influences. Out of the few blues heavy songs they have, they took different tropes of blues music and had interesting harmonic choices that might not be what you’d expect in one of their songs.

Ayla Tesler-Mabe will go into more depth on these specific harmonic and chord choices in four different Steely Dan songs:

  1. Peg
  2. Black Friday
  3. Black Cow
  4. Bodhisattva

The chords and songs you will learn are great ear training exercises and can easily be sprinkled into your practice routine to create bluesy music. And since Steely Dan had a very theoretically educated perspective when writing their songs, this lesson will touch on musical theory too — but if you download the chord charts and follow along with Ayla as she talks through each chord, you will have an easy time!

play your first song on the guitar, start to finish, in an hour.
