We’re starting off 2023 with a bang by bringing you a brand new “5 Levels” lesson. This time, Ayla is breaking down the iconic Dire Straits song “Sultans of Swing.” This song is considered by many guitarists to be quite challenging, which unfortunately makes it inaccessible to a lot of players. In this video, you’ll learn to play it at five varying difficulty levels, so no matter where your skills are at, you’ll be able to strum along!
We’ll kick things off the way we usually do by getting the basic chords figured out. These chords are D minor, C major, Bb major, and A major. As you move through the levels, you’ll add different rhythmic elements to your strumming, expand into full bar chord shapes, and cap it off by playing the entire song just like Mark Knopfler himself! As mentioned earlier, this song is not easy to play on the guitar, and you may find yourself reaching your limit at level 3 or 4. So don’t get discouraged, and focus on having fun!
